HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A 20-year-old woman was killed in a crash in Huntersville Tuesday night involving three cars, according to the Huntersville Police Department.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday on Statesville Road near Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.
Huntersville police responded to the crash and found a 20-year-old woman dead at the scene and another driver who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The third driver involved in the crash, 31-year-old Michael Benjamin, ran away from the scene of the crash but was located shortly after by a K-9 Unit.
Benjamin is now facing several charges, including felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, DWI and resisting, delaying, and obstructing a police officer.
The department's initial investigation showed that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
