Catawba County deputies investigating baby girl's death

The child's mother was taken to the hospital after deputies found her daughter dead inside their house.

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — The death of a 9-month-old girl is under investigation in Catawba County, deputies announced Friday.

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious person near Section House Road around 5 a.m. Friday. When deputies arrived, they found a woman who seemed disoriented. The woman led deputies just down the street to her home on Tanglewood Drive, where they found the infant dead. The woman who led police to the home is the baby's mother, according to the sheriff's office.
