All 4 inmates back in custody after escaping in Chesterfield County

The sheriff's office confirmed the arrest of inmates Deshawn Malik Fox and Kyonne Marquise McLeod on Friday.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Four inmates in Chesterfield County who escaped custody on Oct. 15 have all been caught, according to the county sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office confirmed the arrest of inmates Deshawn Malik Fox and Kyonne Marquise McLeod on Friday. They were the two remaining two escapees out of four.

Fox and McLeod were arrested by the Darlington Police Department for trespassing, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

"While these arrests return all four escaped inmates to custody, the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the escape," a spokesperson said.

South Carolina deputies had located and arrested another escaped inmate, Emanuel Robson Planco, near Columbia earlier in October.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department told WCNC Charlotte its deputies responded to the 1400 block of Willow Oak Drive after receiving a call about a suspicious person reportedly breaking into vehicles. When they arrived on the scene, a RCSD K9 specialist reported saw the suspect break into a Kia. Deputies tried to speak with the suspect, but he reportedly drove off in the Kia, forcing deputies to chase him. According to Sheriff Leon Lott, his deputies put down stop sticks which halted the chase, but the suspect reportedly jumped out of the car and ran away.

K9 Kiro was able to track the suspect into the wood line on Lone Drive. Planco was taken to a hospital to be treated for the dog bites he received during the pursuit.

RCSD told WCNC Charlotte its deputies started an investigation and found Planco allegedly tried to break into a home on Willow Oak Drive to steal a bicycle, but the homeowner saw Planco and told deputies they fired a shot into the air to scare off Planco. The investigation also found Planco reportedly broke into at least three other vehicles in that same block, stealing a PlayStation 4 and multiple credit cards and IDs.

Planco is now facing multiple charges connected to this apprehension, including failure to stop for blue lights and siren, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, grand larceny, first-degree burglary and financial transaction card theft.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Chesterfield County deputies announced Anton Conway Bennett had been arrested more than 200 miles away in North Carolina, near the state line with Virginia. Deputies said Bennett was spotted Thursday, Oct. 17 by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department in a broken-down vehicle, which was reported as stolen from South Carolina. Bennett tried to run away but was caught quickly.

Initially, deputies said Bennett lied about his identity, claiming to be a Garmal Brown from Santee, South Carolina. He didn't have any identification on him. He was initially charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting a public officer. At first, he was granted a $5,000 bond and an Oct. 18 court date, but was still being held in custody until he could show proper identification. However, Bennett was eventually found out and it was determined he was trying to get to Chesterfield County, Virginia. Deputies in South Carolina noted he had family there, but was also wanted by law enforcement in Virginia for several theft cases.

Bennett saw a new identity theft charge tacked on to the new charges he received in Roanoke Rapids. He's being held in the Halifax County Detention Center in North Carolina under no bond, awaiting extradition to both South Carolina and Virginia.

Records show McLeod and Bennett were sentenced on charges of breaking into vehicles. Bennett was additionally charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

Fox was sentenced on charges including assaults and inflicting bodily injuries.
