MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. — The family of Allisha Watts told WRAL News that James Dunmore was given a $1 million dollar bond in court on Wednesday.
Montgomery County District Attorney Lynn Clodfelter stated they will not seek the death penalty.
Dunmore is due back in court Jan. 8. He could face life in prison without parole.
On Sept. 14, the court found probable cause that Dunmore murdered Watts on or around July 18.
Dunmore was Allisha Watts' boyfriend.
On July 18, Dunmore was found unresponsive in Watts' SUV in the parking lot of the DMV office in Polkton – a lot frequented by troopers filling up their vehicles with gas. A detective said he overdosed on blood pressure medication.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
WCNC Charlotte is choosing to show the mugshot of the suspect in this case because of the severity of the crime and public interest in the case.
