Ex-basketball coach charged with child sex crimes expected in court

Jamoszio Burch is facing child sex charges in two counties, investigators say.

ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — A former Anson County youth basketball coach is expected to appear in court this week.

Jamoszio Burch is charged with human trafficking and indecent liberties with children in Anson County and two counts of statutory sexual offense in Stanly County. He was originally arrested in Anson County back in March before Stanly County investigators announced charges there in May.

Burch's case was not on heard Monday. Superior Court officials told WCNC Charlotte his name is still on the docket for this week.

Burch's AAU basketball team traveled to multiple areas for games, including Stanly County. He was a former assistant coach at Union Academy in Monroe. The school said his contract expired and he was no longer associated with Union Academy.

Sheriff Jeff Crisco said his deputies were looking into the possibility of more victims in Stanly County when Burch appeared in court in March. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Stanly County Sheriff's Office immediately.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.

WCNC Charlotte is choosing to show the mugshot of the suspect due to his job and the nature of the charges.
