Case delayed for man charged in death of Albemarle teen Baylee Carver

Joshua Biles is facing multiple charges related to the disappearance and death of 17-year-old Baylee Carver.

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — The man charged in connection with the death of 17-year-old Baylee Carver was expected to appear in court on Monday, but his case was continued, according to the Stanly County Clerk of Court's office.

Joshua Biles, 20, is charged with obstruction of justice and concealment of death related to the death of Carver, whose remains were found in Cabarrus County last week. Biles maintains he didn't kill the 17-year-old, but investigators said her wounds indicate an "unnatural death."

WCNC Charlotte is working to learn when the next court date will now be. He has a secured bond set at $250,000 for the felony charge of obstructing justice.

Court documents allege that Biles moved Carver's body from his home. Her remains were found north of Highway 49 and U.S. 601 after a five-day search involving dozens of law enforcement officers in Cabarrus, Rowan and Stanly counties. Albemarle is about 40 miles east of Charlotte along North Carolina 27.

An autopsy is underway to determine Carver's cause of death.

Albemarle Police responded to a 911 call from someone requesting help at Biles' home around 4:30 a.m. on May 10. Investigators with the Albemarle Police Department and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said their inquiry into the call led them to determine someone had died.

A search party of neighbors found what they believed was blood inside Biles' Honda Civic outside his home. They called the police, who towed the vehicle from the house for forensic processing. One of Carver's best friends said she was in a relationship with Biles.

"I didn't want to think it was real," Emily Lowery said. "I don't think anybody wanted to think that was real. She's a very uplifting person. I've never heard her talk bad about anyone."
