Man dies a month after June shooting in Uptown

CMPD is now treating the investigation as a homicide.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte shooting that wounded four people early in June 2024 has turned deadly after one victim died of his injuries a month later.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Tuesday 30-year-old Aundrey Brown Jr. died of his injuries on July 8. His next of kin have been notified. CMPD is now treating the investigation as a homicide.

Brown was one of four people shot along North Tryon Treet near West 9th Street on June 8, around 2 a.m. Officers said they responded to an assault with a deadly weapon and found Brown wounded, along with two women and another man. All four were taken to a local hospital for treatment. While the other three victims faced non-life-threatening injuries, Brown's injuries were deemed life-threatening at the time.

CMPD said a review of surveillance footage showed an argument happened before shots rang out. A man reportedly went to his car to get a gun and returned to the parking lot, taking aim at Brown and the others. The argument unfolded after a group of people weren't allowed into a business.

As of publication, a suspect has not been arrested and the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information that could aid in the police investigation can call 704-432-TIPS to talk directly with a detective.
