Accidental shooting injures 8-year-old in southwest Charlotte, CMPD says

The incident happened at an apartment complex just off West Arrowood Road near Interstate 77.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 8-year-old girl was hurt in an accidental shooting in southwest Charlotte on Thursday, police said. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Medic responded to a reported shooting along West Arrowood Road, not far from Interstate 77, around 2 p.m. CMPD officers on the scene told WCNC Charlotte that the shooting appeared to be accidental. Investigators said a gun went off in one room and the bullet went through a wall and struck the child in the stomach. 

The victim was taken to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center but is expected to make a full recovery, according to CMPD. 

Detectives are still working to determine who fired the shot. It's unclear if anyone has been taken into custody or what exactly led to the shooting.
