One arrested after Lancaster County Sheriff's Office employee shot in Kershaw

The sheriff's office employee shot Wednesday night has been released from the hospital.

KERSHAW, S.C. — An arrest has been made after an employee of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office was shot in Kershaw Wednesday night, WCNC Charlotte has learned. 

Doug Barfield, who is employed by the sheriff's office as both the staff attorney and public information officer, was shot outside Small's grocery store, according to the sheriff's office. The grocery store is located on North Matson Street just west of Highway 521. 

Barfield was taken to the hospital after being shot, according to officials. He has since been released from the hospital.

Citing his employment with the sheriff's office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting. Barfield was not working at the time of the shooting.

"It is a scary feeling knowing one of your own has been hurt and we are extremely grateful that Doug’s injuries are not life-threatening,” Sheriff Barry Faile said in a released statement.

Lancaster County Sheriff confirmed to WCNC Charlotte 23-year-old Tyrone Lamar Gilford was arrested in connection to this shooting.
