Lawmakers react to shooting in east Charlotte where multiple officers were shot in North Carolina

North Carolina lawmakers react after multiple officers were hit with active gunfire on Galway Drive in Charlotte, NC.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At least three US Marshal officers are dead, and four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers are injured after a shooting in East Charlotte.

One of the officers is in critical condition, according to Chief Jennings with Charlotte police.

In total, eight officers were shot in the incident.

It happened on Galway Drive in Charlotte, NC, as law enforcement officials conducted a US Marshals Task Force investigation Monday.  

North Carolina lawmakers have since sent their thoughts and prayers.

The public is urged to avoid the Galway Drive area near Julian Underwood Park. The shooting occurred not far from the intersection of The Plaza and Milton Road. Around 3:45 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department  (CMPD)said the threat was isolated to that area of Galway Drive.
