Lawsuit filed against Northlake Mall

Bianca Brown and the estate of Armani Spencer are suing the struggling north Charlotte mall.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two lawsuits that were filed against Northlake Mall in July say the mall did not do enough to prevent shootings.

Bianca Brown and the estate of Armani Spencer are suing the struggling north Charlotte mall after Spencer was shot and killed near the mall in 2022.

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call along Northlake Mall Drive, near the parking lot of Northlake Mall shortly after 1 a.m. on Aug. 13, 2022. Three victims were found at the scene with gunshot wounds, police said. One victim, later identified as 23-year-old Armani Donovick Spencer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Brown, one of the other victims, survived her serious injuries.

The lawsuit claims that Professional Security Consultants, which provided security for Northlake Mall and Northlake Commons, did not respond after shots were fired.
