The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina says a deputy shot and killed a man during a call in the Lenoir area Thursday.
According to the office, deputies were called to a home along Watson Road around 2 p.m., in the town's Gamewell community. A woman who had called 911 reportedly told dispatchers her 25-year-old son had a firearm and was threatening to hurt himself.
The office said the first two deputies who arrived to the home encountered the man and saw him armed. The deputies reportedly tried negotiating with him, but they said he raised and pointed the gun at both of them. One deputy then fired his own gun.
The man, who has not been identified as of publication, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The sheriff's office said neither deputy was hurt.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the incident.
