CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A former Montessori secretary who was fired for stealing thousands of dollars was charged and arrested Tuesday with felony embezzlement.
An investigation in July led to the discovery of 12 checks written to the Deborah Crater, the school secretary, after a CMS audit found $15,000 missing from the Park Road Montessori school.
According to her dismissal letter, Crater had also stopped showing up to work since June.
Crater was additionally charged Tuesday with four felony counts of forgery of endorsement.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Park Road Principal Anna Moraglia has been suspended with pay since August, and CMS said Wednesday that her status remains unchanged.
