HICKORY, N.C. -- The Catawba County Sheriff's Office was able to quickly apprehend an attempted carjacking suspect Friday morning.
Around 7:30 Friday morning, deputies were called to the 2100 block of 25th Street NE on reports of an attempted carjacking.
The victim told deputies she was backing out of her driveway when the suspect approached the driver side of her vehicle and brandished a handgun. He then attempted to open several doors, but the victim was able to back out and drive up the street to call for help.
The Sheriff's Office STAR team was training nearby and officers were able to flood the area and locate the suspect, 22-year-old Wesley Eric Wright, Jr.
Deputies recovered an airsoft revolver, a ball cap and a bandana.
Wright is charged with felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and resisting a public officer.
