Man accused of drunk driving in crash that killed 1, hurt 2

Tyler Cummings, 26, faces several charges, including two counts felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury and one count felony DUI resulting in death.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — One man died and two people were hurt after troopers said a man suspected of being under the influence collided with their vehicle.

South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to an accident at McConnells Highway and Brattonsville Road Sunday around 3:30 p.m.

Troopers said a truck traveling south on McConnells Highway drove left of center and hit a Honda carrying five people that was traveling north.

The 54-year-old driver of the Honda and a 26-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The York County Coroner said 66-year-old Paul Kelly of Union died in the crash.

Two other passengers in the Honda, a 4-month-old infant and a 3-year-old child, were not hurt.

The driver of the truck, 26-year-old Tyler Cummings, faces several charges, including two counts felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury and one count felony DUI resulting in death.

According to court records, Cummings pleaded guilty to DUI charges in 2015 and twice in 2017.
