CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have charged Marquell Pettiford on Friday in connection with a deadly November shooting in northeast Charlotte.
The shooting happened around 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 19 at the Woodland Hollow apartments, which is just off Arrowhead Drive near Dove Tree Lane and North Tryon Street.
Police told WCNC Charlotte they found a person who had been shot in the parking lot outside of the complex. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
The victim has since been identified as 29-year-old Anthony Zellars.
Police officers were seen searching the complex and a black BMW that was next to where the shooting happened.
"We want to make sure we can identify any possible leads to solve this," Major Torri Tellis told reporters in November.
Now, Pettiford is in police custody with no option for bond. He is being charged with "first degree murder" and "possession of firearm by a felon."
Pettiford is expected in Mecklenburg County court on Monday.
