Man charged with second-degree murder after fleeing police, crashing into other car

Officials said before the crash, Highway Patrol attempted to stop Randy Collins for speeding, but Collins wouldn't stop for police and ultimately ran a red light.

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A Caldwell County doctor was killed in a crash over the weekend.

Investigators said Roger Lim, 50, died after Randy Collins, 31, ran a red light and crashed into Lim's vehicle.

The crash happened Saturday night at the intersection of Hibriton Drive southwest and US-321.

Officials said before the crash, North Carolina State Highway Patrol had attempted to stop Collins for speeding, but Collins wouldn't stop for police and ultimately ran the red light.

Highway Patrol said speed and impairment are both believed to be factors. Collins has been charged with driving while license revoked, driving while impaired, felony flee to elude arrest, second-degree murder, speeding 81 mph in a 55 mph zone, reckless driving and red-light violation.

He is being held in the Caldwell County Jail with no bond.
