CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Seattle man was found guilty of exposing himself on an American Airlines flight to Charlotte in 2020, the Justice Department announced on Thursday.
According to court documents, Evan Thomas Carter exposed himself on a flight to Charlotte on Aug. 27, 2020. Evidence showed that Carter exposed his private areas multiple times during the flight. He would cover himself when people walked down the aisle and was exposed for at least 20 minutes until passengers in his row were moved, according to prosecutors.
Carter was convicted of one count of indecent exposure on an aircraft, which is a misdemeanor. The conviction means he could spend up to 90 days in jail and face a $500 fine. A sentencing date in the case hasn't been set.
Multiple agencies investigated the case, including the FBI and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
