CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a man Wednesday in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman in her sleep in 2013.
Carlos Delonte Knox, 33, is charged with first-degree murder, murder of an unborn child and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the death of Ondrea Japonica Stevenson. The 19-year-old pregnant woman was found shot and killed in an apartment in west Charlotte on December 4, 2013.
Stevenson's roommates said they let her move into their apartment because she was homeless after having an argument with relatives. Carla Craig said she had only been home for a few minutes when she heard screaming and gunshots.
"I heard like five or six shots," Craig said.
One witness said they saw three men shooting when they ran past a window at the apartments. Craig said at the time of the shooting she thought the bullets were meant for her boyfriend.
The investigation is ongoing.
