Man dies months after Charlotte shooting, suspect arrested

On Dec. 28, CMPD detectives learned the man who was shot died due to his injuries from the October shooting.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has died months after a shooting in east Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The shooting happened on Oct. 19 around 2:30 p.m. on North Sharon Amity Road, not far from Shamrock Drive. When officers initially arrived at the scene that day, they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. The suspect in the case was identified as Terry Lowery, 31. He was arrested on Oct. 24 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

On Dec. 28, CMPD detectives learned the man who was shot, since identified as 20-year-old Donyelle Hill, died due to his injuries. 

Upon learning this, homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for murder against Lowery. He was taken into custody later that day, and was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office after being interviewed by detectives. Lowery has been charged with murder. Hill's family has been notified of the arrest.

CMPD said the investigation remains active at this time, and anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak to a detective.
