LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A Lancaster man was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that happened Wednesday evening, deputies said.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, two deputies were called to an incident on Lymon Reece Road around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. While there, the deputies heard gunshots in the area of Brooklyn Avenue. A
t that same time, Lancaster County EMS received a call about a man who had been shot at the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and 16th Street. When medics got there, they found a man lying in the road who had been shot.
The victim, identified as 33-year-old Domingo Dijon Champion, was rushed to MUSC-Lancaster for treatment before he was flown to Atrium Health-Main in Charlotte, where he died.
Detectives identified Raykeivis Demont Nesbit, 31, of Lancaster, as the suspect in the shooting. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and searched for Nesbit, who reportedly ran from the scene.
He was not found at that time, and detectives obtained warrants against Nesbit for murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Later on Thursday, Nesbit was located in Kershaw County and arrested.
Investigators believed Nesbit was the only shooter, and they were not looking for any additional suspects. He was considered armed and dangerous.
Nesbit was described as a black male, approximately 6-foot-2 and weighs around 240 pounds. He was last known to live on Shiloh Unity Road.
