Man pleads guilty years after deadly shooting of pregnant Charlotte woman

Edward Silk Garner pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a felon, and voluntary manslaughter of an unborn child.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nearly five years after 28-year-old Aiesha Shantel Summers was shot and killed in Charlotte, the man accused of killing her and her unborn child pleaded guilty. 

On Aug. 12, 2019, CMPD officers responded to an apartment complex after a reported shooting and found Summers, who had been shot. Edward Silk Garner was charged with murder and murder of an unborn child three weeks later, in September of 2019.

On July 18, 2024, Garner pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a felon, and voluntary manslaughter of an unborn child. 

Garner, now 40, could face up to 455 months of punishment of some sort. He has already been incarcerated since 2019.
