CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The man accused of striking and killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in late-February has entered into a plea agreement.
Luis Perez-Ramirez was initially charged with felony death by vehicle and driving without a license, both of which have been dropped as part of the plea agreement, and felony hit-and-run and involuntary manslaughter, to which he pleaded guilty to.
Perez-Ramirez, police say, struck and killed 51-year-old Jose Rivera around 2:30 a.m. on February 29 in the 4900 block of Central Avenue
Authorities say Perez-Ramirez tried to trick police by going home, calling 911 and reporting his vehicle stolen.
Officers then located a Honda Odyssey minivan at the Teal Point apartments that had significant front-end damage.
Officials say Perez-Ramirez' blood alcohol level, which was taken several hours after the incident, was 0.11.
Perez-Ramirez will be given a 16- to 29-month suspended sentence and will serve 36 months supervised probation.
Both Perez-Ramirez and Rivera were Mexican nationals.
