MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — A Mecklenburg County insurance adjuster with a history of embezzlement was arrested again, state officials announced.
Tracie Michelle Famber, 59, and her son, 40-year-old Terrance Antoine Hunter, were arrested and charged with one felony count of embezzlement, North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced. Famber and Hunter, who are mother and son, are accused of embezzling over $20,000 in homeowners' premium payments from a client in Forsyth County.
The pair were previously charged with embezzlement in Mecklenburg County and have been charged with the same crime in Richmond County, officials said. Hunter and Famber surrendered to police on April 4 and were released on bond. They are scheduled to appear in court on May 3.
“I’m proud of our criminal investigations team for being on the case,” Causey said. “Insurance fraud must be rooted out and prosecuted to hold down our ever-increasing insurance rates in America.”
If you suspect you or someone you know may be a victim of fraud, you can report it to the North Carolina Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations at 919-807-6840.
