Cheraw, S.C. family searching for answers after woman went missing

Lashaunda Spurlock's family says she has a learning disability and was last seen leaving in a car with two men.

CHERAW, S.C. — "Within the first week, I knew something was wrong," said Shauntia Bloomfield, whose sister is missing from Cheraw, South Carolina.

It's been two weeks and three days since Bloomfield's 42-year-old sister Lashaunda Spurlock was last seen. While time has ticked on slowly, it's still seemingly passed quickly.

Bloomfield said she is left with agonizing pain, longing for the day her sister returns.

"{Lashaunda] would never do this, she would never stay out of contact," she said. "I'm not okay. It's hard for me to function every day because I keep thinking about what she may be thinking or feeling because she is not able to mentally deal with things like we can."

That's because Spurlock, who was last seen on April 30, lives with a learning disability. She was last spotted wearing a book bag, the last gift Bloomfield gave to her.

"I'm so hurt, that’s the one she left the house with," Bloomfield noted.

Spurlock was last seen getting into a red or burgundy Kia Soul with two men along Coit Chapman Lane in the Society Hill community. Shortly after, Bloomfield said Spurlock's phone was turned off and she never returned. Those two red flags got Bloomfield and her family to start searching.

"We did helicopters, ATVs, and searched all areas she could have gone," said Bloomfield.

Now, the thought of the unknown leaves a pain that kills Bloomfield slowly on the inside, especially because the family fears Spurlock was forced into the car.

"The more time that goes by -- now I don’t know what to think," Bloomfield said.

Bloomfield said as the search continues, her family is clinging on to hope.

Right now, it's the only thing they have left.

"I just pray that God touches their heart and just releases her and lets her come back home," Bloomfield said.

Spurlock's family said she was originally believed to be headed to New York but may still be in the Carolinas. She stands at 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 218 pounds.

WCNC Charlotte has asked the Chesterfield County Sherriff’s Office for updates on the search. Anyone with any information is asked to give them a call at (843) 287-0235 or to dial 9-1-1.
