CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte mother said she's thankful to be alive after a bullet burst through her windshield, nearly striking her, in a dangerous case of road rage.
"I'm so scared," said the woman who didn't want to be identified.
The victim said she was driving during rush hour on October 23 when she was at a red light. The light turned green as she saw two other vehicles in a road rage dispute. The woman says she didn't move, but the other cars did as shots were fired out of one of them.
The incident happened as she drove down East W.T. Blvd. in front of CPCC's Cato Campus.
"I heard three shots and one hit [my car]," she said.
Pictures showed the busted windshield on her car. The bullet entered her vehicle, striking the passenger seat.
The victim said she saw her life flash before her eyes.
"Everything happened too fast," she said. "All my life came to my mind. You know, my kids, my family," she said as she explained what she thought when it happened.
She checked to make sure she wasn't hurt. She remembered hearing the loud noise and feeling the breeze from the bullet.
"I didn't know if something happened to me, or only the window," she said.
By the time police arrived, the shooter and cars involved in the road rage were gone.
CMPD told NBC Charlotte they have not made an arrest in the case. Officers urged drivers to remain calm and don't create more tension.
"The number one thing is definitely don't get out of your car. One of the other things is if somebody is trying to challenge you they want you to look at them," said CMPD Officer Jonathan Frisk. "They want you to stare them down. We would recommend don''t look at them."
