Monroe police searching for teen suspect in deadly shooting

Police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

MONROE, N.C. — The Monroe Police Department said one person is dead after a shooting on Saturday night.

The department said officers responded to an incident involving gunfire on the 1800 block of Walkup Ave shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers at the scene found 24-year-old Luiz Lopez-Garcia dead from a gunshot wound. After viewing camera footage and talking to witnesses, officers identified a suspect, whose identity will not be released since the suspect is a juvenile.

Police are actively working to locate the suspect. They believe that this was an isolated incident.
