Released murder convict arrested for assaulting elderly person in Wadesboro

David Duncan was convicted of second-degree murder in Union County in 1996. He was released from prison in April.

WADESBORO, N.C. — A Richmond County man recently released from prison for a murder conviction is accused of assaulting an elderly person in Anson County.  

The Hamlet Police Department arrested David Duncan, 52, on Monday for an assault that happened in Wadesboro. 

Wadesboro police say an elderly person suffered serious head and facial injuries in an assault at their home on Arbor Street around 9:35 a.m. on Friday. Investigators obtained warrants for Duncan's arrest after the incident. 

Duncan was arrested on Monday and given two assault charges, one for inflicting serious bodily injuries and one for assault on an elderly person. Wadesboro police said additional charges are pending.

Duncan was released from prison in April after spending 28 years in prison for second-degree murder. Court records show Duncan was convicted in 1996 for the deadly August 1995 shooting of a man in Union County.

Anson County jail is holding Duncan with no bond. His next court date is scheduled for July 23.
