WAXHAW, N.C. -- Support has poured in from all over the country for a Union County Farmer who shockingly lost their llama due to a gruesome crime.

"It was a horrible death," said Union County farmer Tammy Limer.

A long week and an emotional rollercoaster hit Limer hard.

Union County authorities say alcohol mixed with morbid curiosity led three young men to trespass onto Borderline Farms and mutilate a llama last Wednesday.

The three were charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, second-degree trespassing and cruelty to animals. A few years ago lawmakers increased the penalty for felony cruelty to animals, which can include up to 10 months in jail if convicted.

Limer says dozens have poured in support by phone, email and social media from across the country. One online petition has more than a thousand signatures.

Becky Gooden organized a petition online and hopes lawmakers will bulk up penalties for animal cruelty.

"Taking a second look, that was really my hope. Getting lawmakers to look again," said Gooden.

Limer says her phone has rang off the hook over the last few days and some have even offered financial support.
