State troopers crash during high-speed chase on I-77

The troopers were chasing an Acura that was allegedly clocked at 112 mph on I-485.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Two North Carolina state troopers crashed during a high-speed chase on Interstate 77 in northern Mecklenburg County early Thursday morning, the State Highway Patrol confirmed.

A state trooper clocked a gray Acura doing 112 mph on Interstate 485 and attempted to stop the driver. When the driver refused to pull over, the trooper continued to pursue and a second trooper joined the chase.

The suspect took northbound I-77 before exiting the highway at Gilead Road in Huntersville. At the top of the ramp, the second trooper lost control and crashed into the other state trooper's cruiser. Neither trooper was hurt in the crash.

Highway Patrol said the suspect turned onto the next road before jumping out of the car and running away. The suspect has not been caught.
