One person killed in north Charlotte shooting, CMPD confirms

Detectives with CMPD are speaking to a person of interest.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person has died after a reported shooting in north Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed.

Medic responded to the scene on Arvin Drive early Sunday morning, confirming around 2:40 a.m. that one person had died. CMPD said the victim had been shot and died at the scene.

While homicide unit detectives are part of the investigation, CMPD is referring to the case as a death investigation at this time, not a homicide investigation. CMPD's homicide unit responds to all homicides, as well as assaults with serious injuries, suicides, and "unattended deaths with unusual circumstances."

Detectives with CMPD are speaking to a person of interest as part of the investigation, but no other information on the case has been made public at this time.
