Homicide investigation in north Charlotte after deadly shooting

CMPD said evidence found in the area suggests the shooting was drug-related. No arrests have been made.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was killed in a shooting at an apartment complex in north Charlotte on Thursday, police said. 

The shooting happened a little before 2 p.m. at an apartment complex on Tanager Park Drive, which is just off Sunset Road and Interstate 77. The victim, who was found in a car, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police

A CMPD spokesperson told reporters the shooting appears to be drug-related based on evidence collected at the scene. At the time of publication, no arrests have been made, and the victim hasn't been identified by police. Multiple witnesses have spoken to police sharing what they saw, CMPD said. Officers are still going door-to-door looking for anyone with information about the shooting.

"We're talking about the loss of life," the CMPD spokesperson said. "Our ability to bring justice to that victim, to that victim's family. Each individual is a human being who has brothers, who has sisters, who has friends."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Witnesses may also call 704-432-TIPS to speak directly with homicide detectives. All calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous.
