Arrest made in Carver Boulevard shooting

Marquez Summers, 19, was shot on Carver Boulevard before he was dropped off at Atrium Health University.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was arrested for a deadly shooting in northeast Charlotte.

The shooting happened on Tuesday around 5:30 p.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Marquez Summers, 19, arrived at Atrium Health University on North Tryon Street suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police determined the shooting happened on Carver Boulevard near Thereasea C. Elders Park, just east of West Sugar Creek.

CMPD and the Concord Police Department identified Demarius Poole, 22, as the suspect in Summers' death. Poole was already in custody for larceny-related charges when police connected him to Summers' death.

Poole is charged with murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He is being held in Mecklenburg County jail with no bond. Poole's next court date is July 31.

An affidavit obtained by WCNC Charlotte says the person who dropped the victim off at the hospital told detectives the shooting stemmed from a marijuana deal after a dispute over money.

This was the fifth homicide investigated by CMPD in a 36-hour period. The previous four were the results of shootings on Monday and Tuesday. Three of these homicides happened in north Charlotte while the other was in south Charlotte.
