CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are on the scene of a homicide investigation in northeast Charlotte.
Police officers responded to a shooting at 6:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of East Sugar Creek Road Sunday morning. That's near the Plaza-Shamrock and Shannon Park neighborhoods. Officers arrived at the location and found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The name will be released once the family has been notified of their death.
Detectives with the CMPD's Homicide Unit have charged Carl Iquan Southerland, 43, for the murder of the victim in this case.
He was located and arrested on May 5. After he was interviewed by detectives, he was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's office.
Southerland has been charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
