1 dead in east Charlotte

Monday's investigation marks 84 homicides so far this year.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead in east Charlotte.

Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's homicide unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 3600 block of North Sharon Amity Road, which is located near the intersection with Central Avenue and Albemarle Road.

Officers first responded to a welfare call around 7 a.m. Monday, according to CMPD. When they got there, they found a man who had a gunshot wound. He died on the scene. 

Evidence is still being collected on the scene, and the investigation is considered ongoing and active.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. Detective Carter is the lead detective assigned to this case. The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or CMPD's CrimeStoppers website.

Monday's investigation marks 84 homicides so far in 2024, which is about a 28% increase from 2023.

Last week, CMPD officials discussed its quarterly crime rates. CMPD said it has a homicide clearance rate of 80%, which Deputy Chief Jackie Bryley said is well above the national average of 52%.
