CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A gunshot rang out Friday night at the Charlotte Premium Outlets, but the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said nobody was hit by the bullet.
Officers responded to the shopping mall around 5 p.m. for what was reported to them as an assault with a deadly weapon. Witnesses told police two males were fighting in the parking lot when the gunshot was heard.
CMPD says its preliminary investigation indicates the victim was walking to his vehicle and saw a suspect inside trying to steal it. A struggle ensued during which the suspect fired the shot. While the victim wasn't shot, police said the suspect pistol-whipped him and got away.
As of publication, no arrests have been made. Officers remained on the scene to monitor the area.
CMPD has promised more updates as they become available.
