CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A captain with the Charlotte Fire Department is accused of stealing a patient's prescription narcotics while on the clock.
Firefighters were assisting with a medical call in the 9300 block of Broken Pine Lane on Tuesday. Police say while at the home, Charlie David Morris stole the resident's prescription medication.
CMPD detectives immediately began investigating the theft along with state agents from SBI. They determined Morris took seven Dilaudid pills from the patient, according to police.
Morris, 49, turned himself in for the misdemeanor larceny charge. Additional charges are pending.
Morris has been with the Charlotte Fire Department for 22 years. Chief Hannen said there have been no indications of previous issues.
"We violated a secret trust," Hannen said.
The chief adds he personally apologized to the patient's family.
