Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department homicide detectives have charged 17-year-old Shawn Sanders with the murder of Subhi Elmasharawy.
22-year-old Elmasharawy was pronounced deceased by hospital staff on January 9, according to officials. His family has been notified of his death.

At 9:12 p.m. on January 6, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police responded to the 2000 block of Pimpernel Road in ref to an assault with deadly weapon.
When officers arrived, they found one person with a gunshot wound. That person was then transported by medic.
Information gathered during the investigation led detectives to identify Sanders as a suspect. They obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Detectives with the CMPD’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team located Sanders the morning of January 10 and took him into custody without incident.
Sanders was transported to police headquarters and interviewed by homicide detectives.
At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with 1st degree murder and 1st degree burglary.
