MATTHEWS, N.C. — Two men are on the run after leading authorities on a vehicle pursuit throughout southeast Charlotte that ended in Matthews, police said.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Aviation Unit first started following a dark-colored car driving erratically around 2 p.m. Monday.
The car drove down Independence Boulevard in Charlotte before temporarily stopping at a Walmart gas station on Galleria Boulevard. The vehicle then continued onto Monroe Road into Matthews and stopped at a house on McKee Road and John Street in Matthews.
The suspects fled from the car into a wooded area, police said. The area near Interstate 485 and East John Street was an active search area, but the men were not found. Police did not believe the house where the suspects stopped had any relevance.
Matthews Police are looking for two white men believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30 who were in a dark-colored BMW. They will be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and felony fleeing to elude.
WCNC has reached out to CMPD for information on how the pursuit started.
