CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An arrest was made in South Carolina Monday after Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said a van was stolen with a child inside over the weekend.
Michael Crittenden, 26, was charged with first-degree kidnapping, larceny of motor vehicle, and possession of stolen motor vehicle.
Police said he was arrested on unrelated charges in Conway, then authorities discovered he had outstanding warrants in Charlotte. The stolen van was found in Conway as well.
Police said the gold 2016 Kia Sedona van was left running and unattended in the 200 block of Hawthorne Lane when it was stolen on June 15.
A 1-year-old child was left in the vehicle, but police say the child was located safely a short time after the van was stolen.
The child was dropped off by the suspect on Water Walk Lane. Medic responded, and the child was brought to the hospital for precautionary reasons, officials said.
The van had a North Carolina license plate PJP-3519 with a spare tire on the rear passenger side of the vehicle, CMPD said. Police provided a stock photo of the model of the car for reference.
The suspect was described as a white male in his mid-twenties and last seen wearing a white shirt, black pants, and black shoes.
CMPD reminded the public to never leave children or pets inside a running and unattended vehicle.
