Columbia, SC (WLTX)-- A 88-year-old woman was killed Friday morning by her son, that's according to The Columbia Police Department.
Investigators say preliminary evidence shows that Darrial Hackett, 55, strangled his mother, Johnnie Hackett, 88. Officers said they were called to 8383 Cindy Drive to perform a welfare check. Once inside, officers found the elder Hackett dead.
Crime scene investigators collected evidence at the home and said that the suspect attempted to make the crime scene look like a burglary. At this time, officers said they believe that the mother and son argued but have not determined what exactly led to him killing his mother.
Hackett was taken to The Columbia Police Department Headquarters for questioning and was later arrested and charged with murder. He remains in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
