SOUTH CAROLINA, USA — A South Carolina mother said she returned home to find $150 worth of her son’s Christmas gifts stolen from her front porch.
A doorbell camera caught the suspected thief in the act stealing not one but two different packages just minutes after UPS made the delivery.
Kristy Chasse's son, Landon, had this message for the suspects.
"I would forgive them if I got them back," he said.
This is just one of many porch pirates cases we’ve recently seen as the holiday shopping season gets well underway. Chasse said in her case, it’s less about the stolen gifts and more about the financial burden.
"I mean I'm a single mom. We just bought a house over the summer. So Christmas was gonna be tight anyway," she said.
To avoid being a victim of package theft, police recommend getting home surveillance video similar to a doorbell camera or get your package delivered at work.
You can also leave specific instructions for the person to leave the package out of sight. But the best advice is to try to be home yourself when the package gets delivered.
