Tip from NC helps police locate murder suspect

It was a tip from a citizen in NC that finally led Prince George's County law enforcement Thursday to a murder suspect who had been on the run for months.

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — It was a tip from a citizen in North Carolina that finally led Prince George's County law enforcement Thursday to a murder suspect who had been on the run for eight months.

Raheem Hawkins-Boseman, 23, is the man police believe shot and killed 27-year-old Jessica Somerville outside of a Subway sandwich shop in District Heights back in March.

A SWAT team raided an apartment in Leland, North Carolina, on Wednesday night to arrest Hawkins-Boseman, who had been hiding out on Cape Fear, far from his home in Silver Spring.

"The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect followed the victim outside of a fast food restaurant after a brief dispute and shot her in the parking lot," PGPD said. "They were not known to each other prior to the encounter inside of the business."

Hawkins-Boseman has been in jail in North Carolina since he was arrested late Wednesday night but is expected to be extradited back to Maryland, where he has been wanted for both first and second-degree murder since two days after the deadly shooting in March.

Surveillance camera footage from inside the District Heights Subway on Silver Hill Road shows Hawkins-Boseman with another man minutes before the March deadly shooting. Police said they have not been able to identify the other man in the video.
