CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man armed with a machete confronted a school bus driver Thursday and attempted to get on the bus during a road rage incident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
The incident happened just before 6:30 a.m. along East Seventh Street, near Central Piedmont College in Midtown, according to CMPD.
Police said the man drove up to the bus, got out of his vehicle and got into an argument with the driver of the bus. During the altercation, the man allegedly went to the front door of the bus and tried to force his way inside before leaving. He allegedly tapped the door with the machete before walking away, CMPD said.
CMPD said no one was hurt during the incident and the suspect left the area without further incident. A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said the driver of bus 912, which serves Myers Park High School, reported an unsafe driver around 6 a.m. The driver then got out of their vehicle and tapped on the window "with what appeared to be a knife," according to the district. Police were immediately called and the suspect left before they arrived.
It's unclear how many students were on the bus at the time of the incident.
