ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A Rowan County couple found dead in a garage were killed in an apparent murder-suicide Monday night, deputies said.
The Rowan County Sheriff's Office was called to a home on Old Concord Road a little before 6:30 p.m. for a reported domestic incident. A concerned neighbor called deputies after seeing the couple, identified as 54-year-old Joseph Benjamin Zickafoose and his wife, 51-year-old Melissa Kincaid Zickafoose, enter the building during the situation. When the neighbor was unable to talk the couple out of the locked garage, they called deputies for help.
When deputies got to the house, they forced their way into the building and found the couple dead from gunshot wounds.
Detectives said the case remains open pending the findings of the medical examiner and a complete review of evidence gathered at the scene. No further information was provided by the sheriff's office.
