Salisbury man killed woman during assault, police say

Herman Donald Floyd III, 44, is now charged with first-degree murder.

SALISBURY, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte has chosen to use this mugshot because of the nature of the alleged crime.

A Salisbury man is accused of assaulting and killing a woman on Wednesday.

The Salisbury Police Department said officers were sent to an assault in progress along Statesville Boulevard near US Hwy. 60 just before 7 p.m. that evening. A 57-year-old woman was found with life-threatening injuries consistent with an assault. While officers tried to save the woman's life, she died at the scene.

Less than a day later on Thursday, Salisbury Police said they handled a search at a nearby apartment on Clancy Street, just off Salisbury Boulevard. Investigators said they found information linking 44-year-old Herman Donald Floyd III to the case. He was then arrested and taken into custody.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
