WILKESBORO, N.C. -- Wilkesboro police officers are searching for an inmate who escaped from a highway litter crew.
Police said the inmate, John Okdie, 58, ran away from the crew Tuesday while picking up trash, mowing and landscaping along Red Bush Road in Surry County.
Okdie was serving a sentence for Felony Breaking and Entering, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Larceny. He was scheduled to be released from the Wilkes Correction Center on September 2.
