CONCORD, N.C. — A Concord man has been arrested and accused of shooting a minor, police confirm.
The Concord Police Department responded to Kite Court Northeast on March 28 around 3 p.m. after a shooting was reported. Once there, officers found a person who had been shot -- while officers have not given the person's exact age, they did say the person was under 18 years old.
The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated.
Investigators identified Ruben Rodriguez, 54, as the suspect in the case. He initially drove away from the scene before officers ultimately found and arrested him at his home. He has since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a stolen firearm, and two counts of firearm by a felon.
Rodriguez is now being held on a $500,000 secured bond at the Cabarrus County Jail.
At this time, police believe the shooting was not random.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
