Dispute between neighbors leads to shooting, Matthews police say

The victim was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition, police say.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — A dispute between neighbors led to a shooting in Matthews Wednesday morning, police said. 

The Matthews Police Department and Medic responded to a reported shooting on Parrish Street around 9 a.m. According to Medic, one person was taken to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

A Matthews police spokesperson said the preliminary investigation shows that two neighbors got into an argument that escalated to the shooting. Detectives say this was an isolated incident and don't believe there's any threat to the public. 

No further information was released at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Matthews Police Department immediately.
