Fatal shooting at northeast Charlotte apartment complex, suspect arrested in Cabarrus County

The circumstances around the shooting and the victim's identity have not been released yet.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman  has died after a shooting Wednesday afternoon, according to Medic.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the 5400 block of Strive Street at the Ascent at Mallard Creek Apartments. Authorities responded to the scene a little before 3:30 p.m. after receiving a call about an assault with a deadly weapon. When they got there, they found a woman who had been shot and killed.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has since identified the victim as 33-year-old Jameisha Wilkes.

After investigating the scene, CMPD identified 32-year-old Dasean Maddox as the suspect. Police found Maddox in Cabarrus County and arrested him. He was taken to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown Charlotte to speak with detectives, and then was taken into custody and charged with murder as well as robbery with a dangerous weapon.
